Subject: 9552/City Code 2-253(10)/Bidding Date: Thu, 18 May 1989 09:10:00 -0500 ORDINANCE NO. 9553 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHATTANOOGA CITY CODE, PART II, SECTION 2-253, BY ADDING A NEW SUBSECTION THERETO, RELATIVE TO BIDDING BY RESIDENT BUSINESSES. WHEREAS, it is the policy of the City of Chattanooga to encourage businesses to locate in this City; and WHEREAS, local businesses are likely to employ citizens of Chattanooga and thereby help the local economy; and WHEREAS, local businesses pay property taxes, business taxes, sales taxes, and other taxes which directly and indirectly benefit the City of Chattanooga; and WHEREAS, such local businesses should not be penalized in bidding by the increased overhead; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City of Chattanooga to promote and support local businesses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE: SECTION 1. That Chattanooga City Code, Part II, Section 2-253 be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto subsection (10) as follows: "(10) A preference not to exceed one percent (1%) of the amount of the bid may be afforded businesses maintaining a regular place of business within the corporate limits of Chattanooga." 0C SECTION 2. That this ordinance shall take effect two (2) weeks from and after its passage as provided by law.
